Delaram Ali Delaram Ali, one of the leaders of Iran’s women’s equal rights movement, was sentenced to 28 months in prison for participating in Haft-e Tir demonstrations on June 12, 2006. The protest in support of women’s rights was violently broken up by the police. Delaram was beaten severely during the attack, dragged on the ground by several police officers and subsequently arrested. Delaram was convicted by a lower court in May 2007 and the sentence was upheld by a court of appeal on Sunday.
