Amazing. To see the former Pasdaran foot soldier turned President, personally realizing a war aim of the Imposed War (1980-88).
ReplyDeleteCNN reported that the President's motorcade took the Baghdad Airport Highway, scene of many insurgent firefights. Then he showed up at the Iraqi Presidential residence, which isn't even in the Green Zone. There, he was presented with a review of an honor guard of the Iraqi Army. (Now I ask you, what Western leader would have anywhere near the courage to do any of this.)
Thanks for posting the photo, Nader. Note the representative of the Iranian military, standing beside his Iraqi counterpart. The symbolism cannot be lost by anyone familiar with the terrible Iran-Iraq War. The final period has been written, to end the last sentence of the Imposed War.

Talabani: Iraq will get rid of MKO
ReplyDeleteSun, 02 Mar 2008
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has said that Iraq is doing its best to expel the banned MKO terrorist group which is Iran's key demand.
He said that the presence of the terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) [sometimes referred to as Mujahedin-e Khalq, MEK and the People's Mujahedin of Iran, PMOI] is forbidden by the constitution and that the Iraqi government is working to get rid of them.
President Talabani made the above remarks in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Iran has declared the MKO [aka MEK and PMOI] terrorist organization banned.
