Berlin has recalled its ambassador to Tehran, requiring him to explain the presence of another German diplomat in a military parade in Iran.
The Foreign Ministry has informed Ambassador Herbert Honsowitz to report to Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Monday, a Ministry spokeswoman said on Saturday.
Steinmeier is 'very angry' that the embassy's defense attaché attended the parade after ambassadors from EU member states had agreed to boycott it, the German weekly Der Spiegel reported.
The meeting is to discuss whether the envoy had given proper instructions to the diplomat or not. Neither the name of the defense attaché nor the date and venue of the parade were mentioned in the report.
Iran held a large-scale military parade on September 21st, displaying the country's latest domestically manufactured military arms, naval weapons and air force equipment.
