Iran is not cooperating sufficiently with the UN atomic watchdog in its investigation into the country’s nuclear activities, IAEA chief Yukiya Amano said Monday.
"The agency continues ... to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran, but we cannot confirm that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities because Iran has not provided the agency with the necessary cooperation," Amano said in his opening address to the IAEA's Board of Governors meeting in Vienna.
The Iranian program is on top of the agenda of the Vienna meeting. The board of governors can, for the fourth time, refer Iran to UN Security Council that can impose a new round of sanctions against the country.
The Iranian government rejects any claim that its nuclear program has any military dimensions. They believe they have cooperated with IAEA in the past, but the agency, under its new director, is taking side with the US and against Iran.
