President Barak Obama today signed into law new US sanctions on Iran. At the signing ceremony in the East Room at the White House, the president said the sanctions would strike at the heart of Iran’s ability to develop its nuclear program.

"Consistent with the Security Council mandate, this legislation strengthens existing sanctions, authorizes new ones and supports our multilateral diplomatic strategy to address Iran’s nuclear programs," Obama said. "It makes it harder for the Iranian government to purchase refined petroleum and the goods, services and materials to modernize Iran’s oil and natural gas sector. It makes it harder for the Revolutionary Guards and banks that support Iran’s nuclear programs and terrorism to engage in international finance. It says to companies seeking procurement contracts with the United States government -- if you want to do business with us, you first have to certify that you’re not doing prohibited business with Iran.” [Reuters, 1 July]

Spineless action, taken by someone we all now know to be fully invested by the Israel lobby.

If Iran stops the Petrol smuggling through the Rafsanjani clan into Pakistan and other places, then there is enough for the next decade at this consumption rate

The sanctions could actually optimize certain Iranian Govt. policies, ironic as it may sound.

it won't work, and US must remember that Iran can save or kill US troops in afghanistan or iraq at any moment. Its funny that western cultures have forgotten the name of the game in this modern world-money. Germans and europeans sold so much nuclear material to Iran years ago despite US saying it shouldn't happen. why? money. Israel basically helped iran develop its chemical weapons industry.why? money.US companies still ship goods to Iran that are banned. why? money. its about money, money, money. THe costs are high for people who act as middle men, but Iran will pay the right money to get it and the people will do what they have to do to get it.

1 kilogram (2 pounds) of Uranium, can generate 50,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.

Why should anyone in their right mind not want to have this technology.

Nuclear Tech.,belongs to Iran and not to any regime, every Iranian must support Irans quest for perfecting the feul cycle.

NO buts and NO discussions

In all this cock & bull about sanctions, I can not believe the level of naivity and stupidity on the Russian part.

First they are seduced into betraying their partners, for a tweeter account and a burger, then their spies start to fall like autumn leaves and suddenly they have no more mum and balls to object, when USA builds a missile system base in Poland.

The rest of the world should really think twice before inking a deal with the Russians.

let them starve and drown in Vodka as they deserve.
