Karrar UCAV- part 2

The Karrar (UCAV) appears to take advantage of existing target drone technology.

Detail of solid rocket booster and jet engine exhaust. Armament appears to be a Mk. 82 type bomb.

Rear view suggests a (closed) chute canopy, for drone retrieval.

  1. At the risk of sounding uncivil: where's the sensor pod? No stealth?

Looks like a retrievable cruise-missile (Noor) to me... against rather low-level stationary targets too far (500km round-trip?) for long-range artillery (Jundallah, PJAK) ?

  2. Now, if this was a supersonic cruise-missile or a stealth target acquisition/terminal homing drone (for bombing purposes OR small enough to be launched and retrieved from a sub)... but I certainly would not want to knock down a country that managed to (further) develop and 100% domestically produce so many defense projects within 30 years!

  12. According to this news item the Karrar can carry smart (Kowsar) ordnance without having an apparent terminal homing facility itself.

So I think homing is directly routed to a manned aircraft just within Iranian territory and at max. ceiling (at approx. 20km this will be 500km, the exact round-trip range of the Karrar) in a standoff role while letting the drone itself take the Flak... a cheap expendable manned bomber stand-in, very smart !!

Probably the Karrar will also be steered from the standoff aircraft but, apparently lacking a (too expensive?) sensor pod, still won't have independent target acquisition potential.

  13. By "...sensor pod..." I meant a visual+IR sensor pod ("TV") and by "homing" in this specific case re Karrar, ONLY radar homing (K. has probably radar acquisition and even routed radar illumination on board), NOT visual homing (unless the smart ordnance has routed TV on board).

  14. Apparently a "TV pod" in a non-stealth drone is too expensive to be expendable... maybe in future stealth models?

...and instead of standoff aircraft a string of data-routing satellites ?

BTW, does someone (Mark P.?) know if there are Iranian missiles with TVM guidance and if TVM can do without target illumination altogether ?

  17. the reality is this uav has capaple to lunch from every area is possible my point the could used 60 foot truck and disigne 10 to 12 inside to lunch ground attack in fastest level posible also the assimbly line show iran is capable to make 3 to 5 a day so in one year time is easy to creation of 1000 uav to strick any corner of enemy target/ usa panitration is at least 100km they go way beyound of it range and game chancher in iran military offence.

  18. yeah the uav may not be the most advanced piece of hardware compared to the us or israel, fact being though its a start like all their other "great achievements"may not be worth much right but come back in a few years for karrar 2.0,same with the ghadir sub yeah compared to other navy subs nothing at most be troublesome to a certain degree depending on how many they can produce but here comes ghadir 2.0 the my bad forgot the name not nahang sub the next generation look at their cobra attack helicopter every couple of years more and more improvements now all they need is an air force lets give them credit for maintaing those planes but they would be like swiss cheese against the iaf or us air force if russia doesnt want to sell than china, even if theyre not as great as the russian fighter jets at least theyd take a few out of the sky they dont have 10 to 15 years to wait the bombs will be coming.
