Cuban leader Fidel Castro has criticized Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for denying the Holocaust. Castro told visiting Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic that Iran could serve the cause of peace by “acknowledging the 'unique' history of anti-Semitism and trying to understand why Israelis fear for their existence" [The Atlantic, 8 September].
Castro, himself a fierce critic of Israel, told Goldberg in Havana that there is nothing that compares to the Holocaust and the Iranian government should understand that the Jews were expelled from their land, persecuted and mistreated all over the world.
Castro also told Goldberg that he had read his recent article on Iran and agreed with him that Israel and America were moving “precipitously and gratuitously” toward confrontation with Iran.
American sanctions and Israeli threats will not dissuade the Iranian leadership from pursuing nuclear weapons, Castro said. "This problem is not going to get resolved, because the Iranians are not going to back down in the face of threats.”

While I agree with his points, this decrepit dictator should worry more about the poverty of his own people and improving ties with his neighbours than about Iran.

How can anyone verify what Casro has really said? Is Cuba trying to get an advantage at Iran’s expense?
ReplyDeleteCuba can correct any misquots by Mr. Goldberg. They've had all day so far. Goldberg's report is as accurate as is amazing, both expected from him. Castro also talks about the Cuban problems as well. Highly recommend reading the original Atlantic piece (the link is at the end of the post).
ReplyDeleteI have yet too see any article or comment of this interview on Cuban Media (Prensa Latina, GranMa) Besides the usual Zionist media like CNN, AFP, AP nada, not even the BBC which is normally very quick with anti-Iranian news items. I think this is a hoax, he might have said some negative statements but not as it is being portrayed by you.
ReplyDeleteFidel starts musing, out of the blue, about an attack on Iran. He has good intelligence, so we know his 'Iran talk' was bullshit. Then he agrees to an interview with none other than the concentration camp (Gaza)guard, who we know, from the recent Hitchens interview, is the world's worst interviewer, besides knowing fuck all about anything other than ultra-Zionism. Quick answer to the mystery. Fidel is getting old and wants to see the crippling American blockade lifted before he dies. Fidel knows who runs the United States. The Head Jew has promised to tell Rahm to tell Barry to tell the State Department do something about it, and all Fidel has to do is say some nice things about Jews, some un-nice things about the mythical Iranian 'anti-Semitism', and display a bit of self-doubt about the 'Cuban model'. He loves his country so much he is even willing to suffer the indignity of being interviewed by the concentration camp guard in order to try to improve relations with the Americans.
ReplyDeleteCastro simply meant,

Folks,
ReplyDeleteCriticize the message, not the messenger, if you will!
Castro was just another Dictator like Saddam Hussein was and Khamenei still is (but not for much longer).
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody really care what hes now says or thinks ?? Same goes for Khamenei - an old man on his way out the door. Watch Iran fall apart with internal power struggles after the door closes.
Last anon,
ReplyDeletecouldnt care less for any regimes, but you sound like a drunken cockroach standing in fron of a shoe screaming MotherFu.....
