Arrested in Isfahan. 1 October 2010
Ebrahim Yazdi, former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic and a close confidant of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, was arrested on Friday in Isfahan while attending the memorial service of one of his colleagues at Freedom Movement of Iran (FMI) party. Yazdi is the Secretary General of FMI. Also arrested along with Yazdi, were Hashen Sabaghian, the former Interior Minister in the original Islamic Republic Provisional Government and a leader of FMI, and Ali Asghar Gharavi, FMI’s Isfahan branch chief. The arrests took place on Friday afternoon. The government has not yet announced charges against Yazdi and other FMI leaders.
