Iran Blames US for Building Underground Enrichment Facility
US Energy Secretary Steven Chu today warned that Iran is practicing nuclear "denial, deceit and evasion." Chu said Iran’s decision to move its enrichment facility for higher-grade uranium to an underground bunker (Fordo) brings it closer to being able to producing fissile material for nuclear warheads.
“Pursuing this course raises serious questions over Iran's peaceful intent,” Secretary Chu said [AP, 19 September].
“Iran has continued to engage in a long-standing pattern of denial, deceit, and evasion, in violation of its nonproliferation obligations,” Secretary Chu told a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). “Time and time again, Iran has refused to satisfy legitimate concerns about the nature of its nuclear program — selectively rejecting IAEA requests for access to, and information about, its nuclear facilities.”
Meanwhile, the Director of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Fereidoun Abbasi, talking to reporters after Secretary Chu had criticized Iran, blamed the US and its allies for Iran’s decision to move its facility underground.
“The reasons we moved the Fordo site underground is that we want to make the Americans and their allies work tougher in order to destroy these facilities,” Abbasi said. “Why should they not give us the right in order to protect our installations? If they would not carry out so many devious actions we would establish our facilities above the ground” [IRNA, 19 September].
The pot(US) with thousands of nukes calling the kettle(Iran) with almost no nukes black..
ReplyDeleteThe hubris of these US reps is outstanding...
Here we go again. The deadbeat and bankrupt US should be more concerned about feeding its millions of homeless, jobless and hopeless that worried about Iran's nuclear program. The Zionists have already ruined the US so they just keep barking while the Iranian caravan moves on.
ReplyDeleteAll noise to divert attention from Israels genocide, past and upcoming.
ReplyDeleteOh Karma, where art thou !
Actually, 6:19, the US isn't denying that it has nuclear weapons. The Iranian government is a bunch of outstandingly persistent liars and blacken iran's once good name.
ReplyDeleteThe iranian people deserve better and the sooner they oust this vile government the safer, freer and more prosperous they'll be

Can you prove that the Iranian government is lying about nukes? Even the IAEA have no proof apart from "concerns"..'Concern' doesn't mean or translate into fact...If you agree the US is sitting on thousands of nukes, what right do they have to demand Iran to prove they have nukes or otherwise? Lets just assume the Iranian government is lying. So what? Does the US government not lie all the time? even to the whole world???
This's just a diversionary tactics they always use to divert attention from Israel, who's under a lot of pressure lately with the imminent recognition of a Palestinian state and their cold relationship with Turkey and Egypt..
Iran has every right to defend itself against all of its nuclear armed neighbors including Israel, Russia, Pakistan, India...No Matter which government and which politician is in power.
ReplyDeleteThe grand Iranian nation have ridden themselves of Vatanforushan e Pahlavi parast and etc.
ReplyDeleteNow they are coping with wanton sabotage.
They (Iran) shall prevail.

"Can you prove that the Iranian government is lying about nukes?"
ReplyDeleteyeah.
they've lied again and again and been sanctioned for it again and again.
last month, because they had amassed more than 4,000 kilos of 20% enriched material...a quantity which is absurdly excessive for their usual explanation of "for medical purposes" , they were putting out the story that they were hoarding all of it because they were considering exporting the stuff.
of course, there's no market for it and even if there were, the quantity their holding and which is rapidly inreasing IS STILL wildly excessive.

So what?? I'm all for Iran having nukes..Especially in a region where everyone's got it and not willing to dismantle it. From China to Israel..Iran will be foolish not to obtain the bomb..In fact, Iran already have the capacity to make the bomb and will make the bomb if she wishes..The West can't do a damn thing apart from bark and cream!!!

ReplyDelete"The grand Iranian nation have ridden themselves of Vatanforushan e Pahlavi parast and etc."
The Imperial government started building nuclear power stations and then Mr Khomeini and co sabotaged the program by canceling it in 1979 claiming it was extravagant!
Dariush who were these Pahlavi vatan forushan because the ones I've spoken to are the most Iran loving people I've met but I do know the terrorist mullah loving regime hates old Iranian national cultural identity and places it below Islamic cultural identity.
The facts are Dariush that you don't know what your talking about while your Vatan forush so called government has given away Iran's rights to foreigners such as China Turkey Russia etc and stealing Iran's wealth on a daily bases such as the $2.6 billion scam the Tens of Billions in oil sales fiasco unaccounted for the $18.5 billion in gold and cash gone to Turkey in an Iranian truck and confiscated etc etc etc.
So Dariush who are the vatan forushan? Well the answer is clear buddy it's your pals again the Rotten Thieving Mullahs and their side kick the IRGC and their minions that is clear as day !
And another thing Dariush the Grand Iranian Nation will rid themselves of the Vatan Forushan e Mullah Parast and Saboteurs and truly then Iran will prevail !
I'm against nuclear weapons in general and heavily against a bunch of religious fanatics obtaining nuclear bombs and using it to fulfill their twisted desires.
ReplyDeleteBesides the point no matter what this gangster cult regime does the nuclear bomb will not save it from it's appointed downfall.
NOTE..Those missiles that Iran has are not for delivering flowers!
But built to deliver a nuclear warhead or else they are of no use using a puny conventional warhead.

When that day come, I hope the free Iranians and the new regime will muster the courage to tell the world that they will not abandon their nuclear quest. And I hope to see Iran join the nuclear club before my time is up.
God willing.

well, in actuality, the West can do a very great deal about it. ask Saddam.
Scythian,
ReplyDeletewhen the day of Iranian freedom comes, they may find out that they have no need of nukes and would be better off putting their money and efforts into things that are more needed and more beneficial.
the free iranians will find that the wide-spread opposition to Iranian nuclear technology is based in opposition to the present regime and not to the Iranian people.
ANON 8:14 PM
ReplyDeleteHaving the ability to build nuclear technology and mastering it without producing weapons is enough to be apart of the nuclear club.
This regime will be gone soon and the Iranian people will have greater choice and choose high technology for future developments without relying on black market or third party sources with their expensive unreliable junk.

Likewise, the West can do the same thing about it. Ask Mao Zedong, Jawaharlal Nehru, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and dare I say, Kim Jong-il!

Your suggestion that Iran does not need nukes is naïve and short-sighted, especially when you fail to take into account the fact that Iran's next-door neighbors, Pakistan and Russia, are nuclear powers and may one day pose a potential threat to Iran. In this situation, Iran may need to acquire nukes for deterrent purposes and like it or not, having nukes is beneficial since it would ensure survival of the state of Iran (the main reason for MAD doctrine).
Scythian
ReplyDeleteI can see where your coming from but asked your self does Japan near to China have nukes or Mexico stuck to US and Germany not far from Russia ?
All these countries are nuclear capable if they wish to choose that path but they have found out specially Japan that nuclear deterrence is an illusion and no one comes out the winner.
The best way forward is cooperation and trade in the 21st century meanwhile keeping your civil nuclear program up to date and very reliable.
Scythian, Russia seems like an unlikely threat to Iran any time in this century. Russia did threaten Iran in the last century, even invaded Iran a couple of times, but the reasons behind those invasions no longer exist.
ReplyDeleteRussia no longer covets iranian oil and no longer is a Stalinist regime seeking to impose control and authoritarianism upon Iran.
Pakistan is a failure and far too weak to threaten iran....even if it's wasn't totally preoccupied in bankrupting its citizens in its pre-occupation with India.
If Pakistan ever attempts to threaten a future free Iranian state, those same NATO guys that are opposing Iranian aggression in the Gulf, would slap the Pakistani aggression down.

ReplyDeleteI can see where your coming from but asked your self does Japan near to China have nukes or Mexico stuck to US and Germany not far from Russia ?
No comparison. Japan doesn't need nukes because it is already under U.S. nuclear umbrella guaranteed in the Mutual Defense Treaty between the U.S. and Japan. Same applies to Germany, a NATO member, which rely on the extended deterrence of the U.S.'s nuclear weapons. In fact, Germany has about 20 nuclear warheads stationed on its soil so technically, Germany is a nuclear weapons state! And so are other Nato members (Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey) that hosted these weapons as part of NATO's nuclear sharing policy.
All these countries are nuclear capable if they wish to choose that path but they have found out specially Japan that nuclear deterrence is an illusion and no one comes out the winner.
If nuclear deterrence is an illusion then why hasn't the nuclear-weapon states (see list below) got rid of their stockpiles yet? Explain that to me!
United States
Russia
United Kingdom
France
China
India
Pakistan
Israel

ReplyDeleteScythian, Russia seems like an unlikely threat to Iran any time in this century.
Again, your argument that Russia does not pose a threat to Iran is both naïve and foolish. Just because Russia (or Pakistan) is currently not a threat to Iran doesn't mean it won't be in the future.
If you're still not convinced then by the same logic, Russia is unlikely to pose a threat to Germany as well. However, Germany doesn't share your view and as I've mentioned in previous post, there is a reason why Germany maintained nuclear weapons on its territory. Here is a quote from German National Security Adviser Christoph Heusgen regarding his stance on nuclear weapons.
It made no sense to unilaterally withdraw 'the 20' tactical nuclear weapons still in Germany while Russia maintains 'thousands' of them. It would only be worth it if both sides drew down,"
If Pakistan ever attempts to threaten a future free Iranian state, those same NATO guys that are opposing Iranian aggression in the Gulf, would slap the Pakistani aggression down.
Those same NATO guys you speak of didn't come to Georgia's aid when it went to war with Russia during 2008 South Ossetia war. Mind you, Georgia has close ties with NATO so one would expect NATO to slap down the Russian aggression against Georgia, yet it didn't.
I'm sorry, but you need to take off the rose-colored glasses and recognize the fact that NATO will intervene only when it serve their own interest.
