  1. More money to pay thugs to oppress the people.
Iran would have been at least as advanced as turkey if it wasn't for the curse of oil.

  2. Not so sure about the “curse” part when it comes to the rulers in Iran. It kept the Shah in power for a long time and it’s having the same effect on the current regime.

  3. Mr Uskowi with due respect but how can you compare the regime of the Shah with a hypocritical regime that is utterly anti Iranian and inhuman and wastes Iran's money in Iraq,Syria,Lebanon and leading Iran to war which will cause the destruction of the country.
Granted the Imperial regime may have had its faults but it could have been reformed and put the Monarch back as a figure head instead what we have is a regime which is being run by a bunch of hateful and anti Iranian Islamic Fascists with no pity or respect for human life.
These people are hypocrites they send their children abroad with American passports and live in luxury and expect the nation to live like hermits and in poverty and shout death to America.
At least the Imperial government left something behind which this regime uses and has the nerve to claim it's own the armed forces and it's equipment after 35 years still in use.The infrastructure and whats left of the oil industry.
Mr Uskowi Jabbar Fazeli MD is correct when he used the word cursed but instead of oil he should have said the Islamic fascist theocracy.

that the current regime is even worse, does nothing to make the misrule of the Shah any better than it was.

Iran deserves better than either of two terrible choices.

No Iran deserves this regime because Iranians are ungrateful no matter what good leader they have.
The Shah tried his best for a third world country but some of it's so called intelligentsia thought they knew better and wanted a revolution instead they were used by the cunning and ruthless mullahs and lost.
And you can forget about democracy in a backward society which is run on religion & superstition period.
The leftists make me sick with their stupid revolutions which bring nothing but misery.Iran is a third world country not Sweden therefor the Shah was the best choice which could have been reformed like England or Japan instead Iran deservedly has a barbarous regime which cannot be reformed and rules it's ungrateful people with disdain indefinitely that is indelible.

  6. Shah was the cause and the reason for Khomeini’s rise to power. He destroyed the opposition, including Mossadegh and the National Front, liberals and social democrats, and the extreme left, making the mosque the only forum open for political expression. His last move was to create Rastkhiz and abolishing even the parties of his own supporters, making Iran a one-party rule and himself the emperor. Khomeini used the mosque as the base, and with no organized political party left in the country, he claimed the leadership of the opposition.

  7. Anon 4:04 PM,

I was not comparing the two regimes. I said the oil revenues helped both of them stay in power. Of course the oil revenue could not keep the Shah in power forever, and it will be the same for the current rulers.
