The North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il (the “Dear Leader”) has died at the age of 69. Kim’s obsession with acquiring nuclear weapons at the expense of the country’s faltering economy and international isolation resulted in producing enough nuclear fuel at Yongbyon reactor for some six to eight weapons. His legacy of playing a weak hand well, dragging out negotiations to buy time to produce the weapons and threatening the region as the ultimate survival strategy became a model of behavior for many conservative politicians in Iran.
