Obama Writes to Khamenei; Warning on Strait of Hormuz

The Obama administration has used a secret channel of communication to warn Iran’s supreme leader that closing the Strait of Hormuz is a “red line” and would provoke a US response, the New York Times reported today. Times’ sources did not disclose whether there had been an Iranian reply [The New York Times, 13 January].

Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency and other media have covered the report prominently.

  1. What a silly gesture. Like Iran didn't know that closing the straits would lead to war?

  2. Obama was being a bit too decisive here responding to a frivolous threat.

  5. I think the straits of hormuz threat is deception intended to avert eyes from how Iran really intends to respond. I personally am keeping my eye on Nato deaths in Afghanistan to see if they go up.

  7. As an American-Iranian, I wish Obama would focus more on this:

You say you are an American Iranian then you should know that the US always uses foreign policy as a fall back as the saying goes in American football jargon.
The US president rightly gave the Islamic regime in Iran a written warning which in my book is the right thing to do regarding such an important and vital area such as the Persian gulf and its jugular vein the straights of Hormuz.
