Khamenei Blames US for Unrest in Syria

Syrian Government’s Only Crime is Support for Palestine Resistance - Khamenei

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed the US and the West for the unrest in Syria, saying the Syrian government’s “only crime” is backing the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance.

“If Syria promises the US that it will withdraw support for the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance, all problems will be resolved,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“It is clear that the United States has hatched a plot against Syria and unfortunately certain foreign and regional countries take part in the plot,” Iran’s supreme leader added.

Khamenei also offered another explanation for the unrest Syria, saying the US and the West want to take revenge on the Syrian government after losing Egypt and Tunisia.

“The Americans and certain Western countries want to take revenge on Syria for their recent defeats in the region, including Egypt and Tunisia,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Khamenei made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, Ramadan Abdullah Mohammad Shallah.

Interestingly, the Iranian supreme leader who on may occasions has emphasized the US weakness and inabilities in the region is attributing the popular uprising in Syria to the wishes of the US, saying the Americans started it and can put an end to it anytime they so wish.

A senior Iranian official has dismissed the West's alleged concerns over the country's civilian nuclear program, saying Iran's Islamic patterns frighten the West.

“The [global] arrogance, more than being afraid of Iran's nuclear activities, is angry with the Islamic Republic's religious pattern for progress,” Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said at a meeting with a Palestinian leader on Tuesday.

“Today we witness the return of religious concepts to the political, economic and cultural arenas,” Jalili stated.

He further addressed the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists and described them as “the martyrs of reviving the Islamic civilization” and a perfect example of the scientific progress of Muslim scholars and students.

“Palestine is the common cause of the Muslim world and the synergic axis of Islamic Awakening,” he added.

“The remarkable success of Iran as a strong and pro-resistance Islamic country in the years following the Islamic revolution and in various fields is a bright light for the Islamic movements in the region,” he said

  3. "'WEST FEARS ISLAMIC THOUGHT, NOT NUKES'"

No we fear Islamic Thought AND we fear Islamic Thought PLUS Nukes.

We have no problem with India having nukes, we have no problem with France having nukes, we have no problem with Israel having nukes, we have learned to live with China having nukes. We helped develop nukes with the UK back in WWII.

There is something about a culture that promotes Martyrdom gaining City Busting Bombs that worries the rational mind.

  5. This is a NO-BRAINER. The US/Zionist & Europups had this plan instigated by the usual Zionists in Foggy Bottom and Pentagon dating back to 2002. The three major obstacles to Zionist hegemony and US oil plunder in the region were Iran, Syria and Iraq.

Iraq was easy to dispose off considering it had been isolated since 1990, run bu a madman and slowly worn down. The US invasion in 2003 simply destroyed Iraq as the world watched, now a lot has changed as US is now a bankrupt isolated thug globally.

Syria is a much tougher nut to crack as it has strong allies and a professional and loyal military. Bashar also has wide public support. Iran is a bridge too far.

US in its desperation is unleashing forces in the region that will make the Afghan blowback look like childs play. The puppet Arab petro-pimpdoms instigating the violence against the legitimate government of Syria will burn in the future too.

A few thousand cowardly Salafi terrorists operating from Jordan and Turkey will not be able to bring down the Assad government. US desperation is quite obvious these days. Russia and China are waking up to the fact that they are also on Zionist hit list. It is only a matter of time before the hyeana pack starts a full blown campaign of destabilization against Russia (color coded anti-Putin CIA funded campaign) and then a "freedom and democracy" theatre in China starting with Tibet and Sinkiang.

Russians have cottoned on to US/Zionist agenda and ain't playing ball.

  7. 2:28 AM,

“This is a no-brainer.” Well, it depends on how you define brain! “Pentagon, Foggy Bottom, Zionists and Europe” have been planning the Syrian uprising since 2002? This is the essence of your thesis. Really? The people of Syria have no control over their destiny, and are used by all the above as simply pawns in a big geopolitical game? Isn’t this analysis an insult to the Syrian people and those thousands who have lost their lives in defense of their freedom and integrity? Isn’t four decades of rule by a single family simply enough? Why can’t you believe that people are fed up with the Assads? Enough is enough, no? Aren’t you insulting the Syrian opposition by calling them “a few thousand cowardly Salafi?” Cowardly? And yet ready to lose their lives for their country? It is this type of analysis that is cowardly. Not able to grasp the reality on the ground, because it runs against one’s pre-conceived ideology, then resort to attacking the Syrian people as cowardly Salafis.

Of course the foreign and regional powers, the US, Iran, Europe and Israel and others, each have distinctive interests in Syria, and each try to have the outcome of the current crisis to be closer to their own goals. This is nothing new, and is not limited to Syria. It is true in all Arab Spring uprisings, including Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Bahrain and Syria. But accusing the people who come on street to demand freedom, justice and respect (in any of these countries) as being the simple tools of foreigners not only is unjust, but also misses the whole point about the Arab Spring and the aspirations of the Arab people.

Finally, one key question: do you really consider the US so powerful in the region, and specifically in Syria, that it can bring out thousands and thousands of people on the streets to demonstrate and risk their lives in the process? It seems that you (and the ayatollah) believe in the supreme power of the US, don’t you?

  8. Mr. Uskowi well spoken. Mr.Anonymous, perhaps you should go back to Iran maybe Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Bahrain or Syria. It appears that, you are here in the US or Europe, enjoying the freedom that you so take for granted. Go back to those countries and try and make your point.

  9. The Syrian people are living in the mud and crying out for freedom yet you have these internet warriors claiming it's a Zionist plot.
They don't care the Syrian regime is killing thousands of its people so long as the Syrian regime supports the Islamic theocracy and has a anti Western agenda.
I suppose Khamenei thinks that Iran is basking in democracy and the Iranian people are content with his benevolent theocracy.I presume he will say that the "Zionists" are plotting against the freedom loving and humanitarian Islamic regime.
Anyway simply by showing his concern for Syria confirms his worry that the Islamic theocracy will lose Syria as an ally in the very near future, which will lead to the possible downfall of Hezbollah as a major political and military force in Lebanon.

    Don't say I didn't warn you.

  10. The Fact the West will try to take advantage of the situation in Syria and in a greater sense in ME is obvious. But the situation worsening in Syria was clearly due to the Syrian Governments actions and reactions. They are in control and they are responsible for most of what goes on the ground, blaming others is just a cop-out. The lesson in Syria should be that acting tough and stupid against large portions of population does not pay off. Khamenie better learn from it or else repeat the same mistakes and pay for it. Pressure tactics, jailing, torture, and killing works only for short periods of time and not all the time and is not a sustainable method of ruling in the 21st century. History is full of evidences to support this.

what about culture that promotes because they are are exceptionable and harbingers of freedom and democracy they can do no wrong, even if they wage nuclear war

like the current consideration to use tactical nukes against Iran as an option against Iran's facilities

    MORE IMPORTANTLY

and what about anyone that doesn't have western minded thinking is somehow incapable rational acting

of course the latter is why two nuclear bombs were dropped on japan even though japan had already committed to surrender before the bombings

  12. "what about culture that promotes because they are are exceptionable and harbingers of freedom and democracy they can do no wrong, even if they wage nuclear war

There is a widely held doctrine among nuclear powers. Its called "Counterforce". This doctrine specifies that a threatening nuclear capability will be countered by an equal capability. In other words say a nuclear missile silo will be target for destruction by a nuclear missile, or a nuclear ballistic missile submarine will be targeted by a nuclear hunter/killer submarine. Or in this case a site critical for making nuclear weapons will be targeted for destruction by nuclear weapons. This is acknowledged American policy, every country knows it; which is why there are few openly hostile nations willing to develop nuclear weapons out of fear of bringing nuclear destruction on their own country.

"and what about anyone that doesn't have western minded thinking is somehow incapable rational acting"

Not saying the western way is the only rational way of thinking (Most of the Asian countries are quite rational), I'm saying the thinking that has been coming out of the Middle East over the past 60 years has been irrational; Correction the past 1400 years.

"of course the latter is why two nuclear bombs were dropped on japan even though japan had already committed to surrender before the bombings"

Actually that's not true. The Japanese government was not considering surrender before the atomic bombings. In fact there was an attempted coup to prevent the Emperor from ordering surrender following the bombings.

I wish America was as all powerful as some in the middle east would make it out to be.

I wish we had the power to manipulate entire countries in to revolution with out anyone noticing.

I wish we had the Doomsday weapons like the HARRP earthquake gun and the Mossad killer sharks.

No one in their right mind would mess with a country like that!

i think enough said about your thinking i don't need to justify anything really

but a note, ignoring the history of the Islamic republic and its behavior with ideological basis which a rational person uses to judge expected behavior which will clearly show who acts more rational not just iran compared to other countries as a competent actor i mean the land of the free, and you will have a winner

like simply iran spends less then 2 percent of gdp on the military, no country which does that is a militaristic power or one that's a threatening one of any significance

for irrational people who cant consider the above

never mind other muslims, i mean the religious ideas of iran leaders and the those who generally follow that, nobody among them believes in martyrdom seeking as something to start war for, that's clearly against Islam across the board, because then your not a martyr get it,its not like god wont notice you deliberately started war for nothing never mind use nukes, that is explicit in teaching and understanding, which u can ask anyone, a very basic tenet of Islamic warfare has been proportional response in terms of this nukes would never be used thats why those morons who think even al-qaeda wants to use nukes are wrong

i dont want take anything away from the idea of nationalist usa where militarism is the number one politically doctrine

my first point was its not that nuclear powers point there nukes at nuke facilities under MAD

the us military has considered in its current preparations to attack iran with tactical nukes, the current military option to attack iran, the preemptive one

second point yes they still attacked japan under this presumption and the idea of surrender was being considered at a significant level before the nukes were dropped and likely japan may have surrendered before the invasion but still japan was attacked under the idea they were irrational to contemplate surrender

my final point is you, and your somewhat intelligent i guess, and if thats what ur perpetutating then

  14. iran im sure iran may already if not soon will secretly start to support the Syrian uprising it cant do it publicly as long as Assad has a hope of remaining under the current circumstances while Iran under western threats otherwise they would have been against Assad from the beginings

many Iranian mp's and others close to the government have stated this like in newspapers to support the uprising

  17. This fascist theocracy is against the Syrian people. That is why the Hezbollah are fighting for Assad's regime. The theocracy knows that when Assad goes the foreign policy of the theocracy goes with it.And after that the Hezbollah in Lebanon and followed by the collapse of theocracy itself.
Who ever says that the theocracy supports the Syrians against Assad is a liar. The Syrian opposition has confirmed many times that once Assad regime goes they will no longer support the Hezbollah in Lebanon that is proof alone that the theocracy does not support the opposition.
But the funny part is when the Syrian opposition does win the theocracy will claim all along that they supported the Syrian people against Assad and it's a "Islamic awakening".
Just proves what a bunch of two faced jerks the theocracy is, pathetic.
