US President Barack Obama today urged Iran to seek a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff. The president, speaking at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) annual forum in Washington, also warned against "too much loose talk of war" with Iran.
Obama told thousands of AIPAC delegates that international sanctions against Iran were working.
"Because of our efforts, Iran is under greater pressure than ever before… Iran is isolated, its leadership divided and under pressure. And the Arab Spring has only increased these trends, as the hypocrisy of the Iranian regime is exposed, and its ally -- the Assad regime -- is crumbling,” Obama said.
"I firmly believe that an opportunity remains for diplomacy -- backed by pressure - to succeed," Obama added.
Obama cautioned the delegates against saber-rattling as Iran developed its nuclear program.
"Already, there is too much loose talk of war. Over the last few weeks, such talk has only benefited the Iranian government, by driving up the price of oil, which they depend upon to fund their nuclear program.
"For the sake of Israel's security, America's security, and the peace and security of the world, now is not the time for bluster; now is the time to let our increased pressure sink in, and to sustain the broad international coalition that we have built," Obama said.
But he also reaffirmed his strong backing for Israel and warned Iran's leaders that he would not hesitate to use force, if required, to stop it developing a nuclear weapon.
"Iran's leaders should know that I do not have a policy of containment; I have a policy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. And as I've made clear time and again during the course of my presidency, I will not hesitate to use force when it is necessary to defend the United States and its interests."

"Diplomacy", says Obama, but what he means is capitulation, and surrender.
The US, and the West, aided by their allies, have twisted the meaning of words. A "moderate" Arab regime is one that accepts the continued occupation of Palestine, even as it oppresses its own people. So Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain are "moderates".
"Democracy" means subjugating national interests to US demands, and influence. So Yemen is now a "Democracy", whilst even Saudi Arabia is a fledgling "democracy" too, and with Egypt, under Mubarak, was both a "moderate" and a "democracy". Geddit?
So please Nader, help us cynics understand what Obama means by "diplomacy"?
To Obama: What are you wasting for. Just stop the barking and start the attacking.......
Yes mat and that's what the mullahs would like the US and Israel to do and attack Iran. So that the filthy regime in Tehran can go through a war footing and declare marshal law on the Iranian people and oppress them even further. That blood sucking Khomeini said once that the Iran Iraq war was "a blessing in disguise."
So you and people like you can keep on dreaming about a war to save the regimes backside but rest assured that won't happen.
Now go and bark elsewhere because there is no dog biscuits here.
'ISRAEL WOULD REGRET AGGRESSION AGAINST IRAN, MP SAYS
Tue Mar 6, 2012 2:21AM GMT
A senior Iranian MP says Iran is capable of putting Israel's security at risk in response to any possible military attacks by the US and Israel, Press TV reports.
“Undoubtedly, any attack on the Islamic Republic will be equal to a very serious security threat for the Zionist regime,” National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi told Press TV on Monday.
“They will definitely realize the consequences of such threats. Today, we are much more powerful than before in terms of military capabilities… If Israel makes any mistake, it will face serious losses,” Boroujerdi added.
He made the remarks in response to US President Barack Obama’s speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) meeting in Washington on Sunday night.
Gifted one
I wonder sometimes about you.
