Israeli Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the spiritual leader of the ultra-Orthodox
Shas party in the Israeli Parliament and former Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel,
has called for prayers for the destruction of “sheitan” (the evil) in Iran,
presumably the senior leadership of the Islamic Republic.
"[When] we ask God to 'bring an end to our
enemies', we should be thinking about Iran, those sheitan (evil) ones who
threaten Israel. May the Lord destroy them," said Rabbi Yosef. (Reuters, 26 August)
The sermon by Rabbi Yosef added to a flurry of anti-Iran
rhetoric from Israeli officials, raising concern that Israel might be planning
to attack Iran.
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent
his national security adviser to brief the 91-year-old Rabbi on Iran's nuclear
activities in a move seen to persuade the religious leader to support an attack
on Iran. (Please click here to read Ben Caspit’s article in Ma’ariv on Netanyahu’s
consultation with Rabbi Yosef on bombing Iran.)
ReplyDeleteAnswer to the Israeli Senior Rabbi.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
I believe he said "reshaim" (villains), not "sheitan", which would be pronounced "satan" in Hebrew.
ReplyDeleteSadly, this is a very dangerous development...'Yahoo has the messianic cover he needs.
ReplyDelete... as does the rest of the modern world declare this destruction not on the people of Iran but on the demon possesed regime of Iran who continue to stifle the people and spread and sponsor terror throughout the world.
ReplyDelete"[When] we ask God to 'bring an end to our enemies', we should be thnking ..............."
ReplyDeleteThe fact is, there are thousands kinds of man-made gods out there.
So, which 'God' did the rabbi really mean it?
I think it's time that all religious leaders stop "calling" for anything and just be quiet when it comes to politics, foreign policy or military action. Religion does not mix well with anything. Its 2012 when is humanity going to figure this one out finally?
ReplyDeleteRabbi Ovadia Yosef is a piece of dung. He even once said, "non-Jews exist only to serve Jews."
ReplyDeleteThat said, I hope the Karma God will smite him with a vengeance.
Religious leaders showing their true selves...

ReplyDeleteYes, and just like there are hundreds of thousands who would declare this destruction not on the people of Israel, but on the demon possessed regime of Israel who continue to oppress and occupy its neighbours' territories and spread terror throughout the world. This is obviously what Ahmadinejad meant.
Now see, if Iran had an organization as powerful, influential, and parasitic like AIPAC in the US, and had the Europeans been so utterly guilt-ridden towards Iranians as they are towards Jews, then perhaps we could have made this front-page news for months to come. Perhaps we could have used this as an excuse to demonize all Israelis and Israel's regime and persuade the nations of the west to place sanctions on them.
Funny how "the evil" in Iran presumably means "the senior leadership of the Islamic Republic", while the "destruction of the regime of Israel" means the genocide of the Jews.
ReplyDeleteHeh, go figure.
