Iran Navy Holds Minelaying Exercise at Caspian Sea

The Iranian navy held a minelaying exercise at the Caspian Sea on Monday. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei observed the exercise off the coast of Noushahr, a Caspian port city in Mazandaran province. The exercise coincides with U.S.-led International Mines Countermeasure Exercise (IMCMEX) in the Persian Gulf that began on Sunday 16 September and runs through 27 September.

The focus of IMCMEX, involving 20 nations, is to keep the Strait of Hormuz clear of any minelaying activities if a military conflict breaks out. The Iranian exercise at Noushahr focused on laying mines in case of war.

  1. I would say the regime has laid enough mines against themselves already.

I think you're confused. The mines are meant for Iran's enemies, not for themselves.

    "I think you're confused.The mines are meant for Iran's enemies,not for themselves."

On the contrary, the political and economic mines that the regime has laid against itself are far more destructive than the ones they are laying against their enemies.

Funny. A fellow Iranian, who was once a neighbor of mine, made a similar statement. Of course, that was 23 years ago, after the end of Iran-Iraq war.

You can cling to hope all you want, but don't be surprised when you set yourself up for disappointment.
