IRGC Commander Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ali “Aziz” Jafari said today
in Tehran that IRGC has 450 “Imam Hossein” battalions ready to defend Iran in
case of the possible invasion of Iran. Hossein is a revered Shia imam.
Jafari did not disclose the strength of each IRGC (“Imam Hossein”)
battalion. Typically, a battalion in modern armies consists of some 500-1000
soldiers, commanded by an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Gen. Jafari
also said that female Basij battalions have also been formed to be activated in
case of a national emergency.

I wonder what the general would do if the supreme leader were to openly challenge his authority or his statements; would he ever attempt a military Coup d'état?!
I don't think it's not beyond the realm of possibility, since the general is already considering the government to be inadequate in conveying what he really wants to say, hence the frequent independent news conferences.
Even if he's not challenged, I wonder what it would take for him to decide that the threat is too big and the Government is too weak to handle it. He may keep khamenei is a figurehead and take over to as iran's new dictator.
I doubt calling a Battalion (Imam Hossein) will make it any less bullet proof against a determined foe.
If I had to guess, these "battalions" are Basij type elements with a makeover. And female Basij units aren't new.
Fight where? is the pertinent question.
Jabbar I don't know how closely you follow Jafari and his speeches but the general considers Khamenei a virtual Imam.
When is mark coming back??? Your blog didn't post anything on the the sacred defense parades .. nor did it cover the RAAD system and the new shahed drone... I used to come here for these news, but it looks like the days you covered something other then statements by both sides is over...
