Ali Akbar Javanfekr, the CEO of IRNA - Iran’s official news agency,
was arrested today in Tehran and taken to the notorious Evin prison to serve a
six-month sentence for publishing an article about Islamic dress that was
deemed offensive to public decency.
Ali Akbar Javanfekr was also a close aide to President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad. He was arrested today while Ahmadinejad was making a speech at the
U.N. General Assembly in New York.
Javanfekr is the third high-profile political figure to be arrested in
as many days. In the past two days, Faezeh and Mehdi Hashemi were arrested and taken
to Evin.

The Khomeini revolution eats its children
ReplyDelete6 months in prison for writing an unpopular article, what a democracy.
ReplyDeleteThis must make it very hard for the regime to keep arguing that there is freedom of expression and independent courts in Iran.
It's a sure sign when a regime starts arresting its own people, there is something rotten within the system, which will lead eventually to its imminent collapse.
