EU Leaders Tell Iran to Curb Nuclear Activities or Face More Sanctions

The EU leaders on Friday told Iran that Europe will further tighten economic sanctions, beyond the sanctions imposed this week, if Iran does not engage in “meaningful” negotiations on curbing its nuclear activities. The warning came at the conclusion of an EU summit in Brussels.
EU leaders also said if Iran complies with nuclear non-proliferation rules, the sanctions would be lifted.
“The Iranian regime can act responsibly and bring sanctions to an end,” the EU leaders said in a statement at the end of t summit. “But as long as it does not do so, the EU remains determined to increase, in close coordination with international partners, pressure on Iran.” (Reuters, 19 October)
