Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani today said President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad does not understand his constitutional powers. Ahmadinejad
has been pressuring the Judiciary to allow him to visit Evin, the country’s main
prison. On Monday, Ahmadinejad accused the judiciary of “unconstitutional”
behavior for its refusal to permit a sitting president to visit Evin prison. Sadeq
Larijani fired back that Ahmadinejad will not be allowed to visit Evin without
his permission. (ISNA, 24 October)
Evin is a notorious prison noted for its political prisoners’ wing.
Ahmadinejad’s press adviser and head of the state news agency IRNA, Ali
Akbar Javanfekr, is being held in Evin on charges of offending public decency
and insulting the supreme leader. Ahmadinejad wanted to visit Javanfekr during
the tour of Evin.
Ahmedinejad is such a disgraceful opportunist. This is all contrived to distract from his disastrous and big mouthed foreign policy, which caused a currency crisis.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteit is all contrived.
the hardliners threw Ahmadinejad's advisers into jail to distract from iran's disastrous foreign policies.
BTW, Anon 1:38, it's not Ahmadinejad who handles foreign policy for Iran. not part of his job's duties.
