Tehran Residents Urged to Leave the City
Iran’s Health Minister Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi urged
Tehran residents to leave the city, if possible, to escape choking air
pollution that has reached “dangerous” levels. Ms. Dastjerdi
said the hospital admissions in recent days have increased by 15 percent, with
people suffering headaches, respiratory difficulties and nausea. (Arman, 5
December)
The pollution, blamed mainly on the city's
bumper-to-bumper traffic, is a constant woe for Tehran's eight million
residents. The schools and government offices have been closed on Tuesday and
Wednesday and will remain closed on weekend’s Thursday and Friday.
