Iran Could Use Talks as Cover to Build Bomb, UN Secretary General

Situation Compared to North Korea

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned on Thursday that the international community risks letting Iran use drawn-out nuclear talks with P5+1 and IAEA as a cover to build a nuclear bomb, Ban said in an interview with the Washington Post. Ban compared the situation to North Korean behavior of exploiting a decade of fitful diplomatic efforts to make progress toward a weapon.

“We should not give much more time to the Iranians, and we should not waste time,” Ban said. “We have seen what happened with the DPRK.”

“It ended up that they [were] secretly, quietly, without any obligations, without any pressure, making progress,” Ban said. (Washington Post, 15 February)

Ban added that he wants to accelerate diplomatic talks with Iran and give them new urgency to reach a consensus soon.

The U.N. Security Council must “show a firm, decisive and effective, quick response,” Ban said. Adding that he wants that the UNSC makes plain to Iran that the rest of the world is not convinced that it is not seeking nuclear weapons.

Ban revealed that he told Iran’s supreme leader and president last year that he is not satisfied with their assurances that the program is peaceful.

The United States says Iran could assemble a weapon as soon as next year if it chose to do so.

  2. He may speak Persian but in his mentality he is an Arab and a Muslim who doesn't give a rat's ass about Iran but is more interested in you fantasy "Umma" and is using "Taghiye" (Your beloved Prophet sanctioned the use of lying against Islam's enemies 1400 years ago when first offering a hand of friendship to the Jews of Medina while he was week and then murdering 700 of them in one day, confiscating their properties and taking their women by force and giving them to his followers when he felt strong enough to do that) to fool the world.
It will not happen. The west will not allow Iran to have a nuclear bomb.

  3. Mr. Moon is out of line. According to the agency there is no evidence for Iranian bomb. Iran should ask for a public apology and if it was not granted Iran should reduce its cooperation with them.

    3. there isn't evidence that Iran has attempted to assemble nuclear weapons, but there's is plenty of evidence that Iran is lying about its activities and is doing everything to develop the ability to assemble such such and developing the ability to mount nuclear weapons on missiles.

the IAEA has repeatedly and in writing noted evidence of that and repeatedly has asked Iran to explain and allow the inspection of the weapons development sites.

    4. you mean the fabricated evidences? The ones that people laghed once one of them leaked to the media?
Iran several times asked the IAEA to show them those so called evidences however IAEA refused every time. How Iran can answer to a claim when they do not show the case to them? Even in courts, prosecutor presents the evidences to both judge and the accused (and his attorney).
If you ask me I am ready to bet that IAEA does not have any legal and presentable case and all the claims are based on possibly fabricated evidences forged by Iran's rivals and enemies like Israel.

    5. yeah, all fabricated and Russia and China a re great friends to Iran and will never allow that "made up" evidence to persuade them to impose sanctions on Iran....

    6. China and Russia are not Iran's friends they are just using Iran as a card to gain more. Specially Russia gain a lot from Iran's sanctions and high oil price. China is more friendly but it will not sacrifice its relationship with US for Iran
