New
Uranium Reserves Discovered
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has
selected 16 locations for the construction of nuclear power plants as part of a
plan to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity at multiple sites over the
next 15 years, the state TV reported today.
Meanwhile, AEOI reported the discovery of new uranium resources in the country that will put its reserves at 4,400 tons compared to 1,527 tons three decades ago. (IRIB, 23 February)
Note: AEOI’s announcement of plans to build 16 new power reactors appears to be directed at the critics of the country’s nuclear program questioning the rush to enrich uranium when there are no power reactors to use them. But the question still remains about the current pace of enrichment as it would take many years to construct any of the planned new reactors.

ReplyDeletebuilt with russian help or are they going to try it alone?
