Iran Unveils New Fighter Jet: Qaher-313

A Mock-Up Displayed in Tehran

Iran today unveiled the mock-up of a domestically built fighter jet that can reportedly evade radar. The single-seat Qaher-313 (F-313) can combat both other aircraft and ground targets, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported. The government has not announced if any flight tests has been conducted on an actual prototype model, and when the new fighter will go into full production. No technical specifications of the aircraft has also been released.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed the manufacturing of Qaher-313 as manifestation of the country’s growing self-reliance in defense industry. In a ceremony broadcast on state TV, Ahmadinejad said the Qaher-313 (“Dominant-313”) shows Iran's will to “conquer scientific peaks.”
“Qaher-313 is a fully indigenous aircraft designed and built by our aerospace experts. This is a radar-evading plane that can fly at low altitude, carry weapons, engage enemy aircrafts and land at short airstrips,” said Iran’s Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said. (IRNA, 2 February)
Iran's English-language state Press TV claimed Qaher was similar to the American-made F/A-18, an advanced fighter capable of dogfighting as well as penetrating enemy air defenses to strike ground targets.

UPDATE: The state TV just released a video showing the aircraft in flight. Please click here.

Well, that is not exactly the picture of today; but what they have shown (today) is a trainer jet ....

What Iran has shown is a mock-up.

This is actually what was shown by state TV today : http://www.mehrnews.com/en/newsdetail.aspx?NewsID=1806008 looks like an offshoot of the previously unveiled (and shelved) Shafagh project, with its distinctive LERX and stealthy shapes. We will also note the total absence of even training ordnance mounted below its belly of wings, and as far as i know nobody has talked about an internal weapons bay. As usual, no actual flight tests have occurred, at least in public, and no declarations has been made with regards to its specifications, other than the classic PR affirmations that it is "ultra advanced and top of the world". Hence, we can hardly support the thesis that this is an operational prototype rather than a mock-up or proof of concept. All in all, at this point, this news is empty in substance. The one thing it tells us for sure is that Iranian engineering task forces are indeed working on some new designs for the military aviation industry, rather than coming up with yet another copy of older design they have in their possession.

Its a mock-up.

Welcome to simulated reality of IRI; it is rather comical, because it is not even simulating reality; it is rather simulating simulating ...

Can da Space Monkey fly this jet aircraft also?

This airplane (Ghahar 313)is a mock up.The film of this plane flying is a large scale RC model. If you study the film, you will notice it is flying at high G with its fixed landing gear down. That proves it's a RC model.
Also one important factor is the engine.Iran hasn't yet produced a turbo jet engine let alone a turbo fan engine for such a plane.
Also remember Shafagh mock-up revealed in 2003 ? After 10 years of being fed the propaganda the non existed plane was cancelled.
Same will apply to this.

Space Monkey is certainly the right size for it.

If they would have come out with a aircraft that was 4th generation it would have been more believable.Where is the engines for this type of fighter plane?
They haven't even produced a 4th generation fighter and now they claim to build this 5th generation one?!

Prototype or a mock-up, this is quite an achievement for a country under sanction. Belittling and mocking the achievements of Iranian engineers is not only inappropriate but quite distasteful , especially when it comes from fellow Iranians. This plane is not made by a bunch of mullas but by the ordinary Iranian engineers starved from access to the international technology market.

WAITING PATIENTLY

let us wait for the truth tellers to dig the facts-AM SURE THIS PROJECT IS A FRAUD and the prototype is a borrowed project from RUSSIA!!!!!LOL.

PR provided for the domestic audience. The IRIG feels the need for such, given the foreign threats Iran endures.

Really, what this mock-up underscores is the logic behind putting the resources it does toward its ballistic missile strike force.

What's so distasteful about being constructively critical? Can't you see the plane is a mockup just like the previous mockup of the Shafagh revealed in 2003 and since cancelled?
They shoved Shafagh down our throats for ten years and we didn't see a single one flying, ever!
Building a mockup doesn't mean a thing.Iran can build a mockup of a manned Mars lander out of wood but it doesn't mean they can actually build a real one.
Where are the 5th generation engines for this type of plane?
The Russians under the Soviets were parading ballistic missiles made of wood to show they were more powerful.Looks like the regime in Iran has taken a few pages out of the Soviets propaganda book.

If it was a borrowed project from Russia it would have been more believable.LOL!

This is clearly a joke. As for belittling their achievements? The Iranians do that all by themselves. It's clearly an RC model that was shown flying and this fiberglass piece of crap with the plexiglass canopy is more fitting for a 2nd grader's school aviation project. They remain the laughing stock of the world and as such, no one will ever take them seriously. IF they in fact can produce this plane, all I can say is...I welcome Iran to 1980 technology! Way to make those technological advances, mullahs.

The space monkey is going to use this plane for his great escape away from this regime.

Generation numbering of combat aircraft isn't the same for all countries. In China for example, what we call 5th generation is called 4th to them. For Iran, this is considered to be 3rd generation. For anyone else reading this, Iran does have the capability to produce turbo fan engines now. Naysayers are going to be ridiculed very soon!

Of course it's a mock up. The Iranians stated so themselves. Why the surprise??? This is the very first step in the trial, and production process of a new jet. You have a fundamental lack of aircraft development cycles to make such broad conjectures. Oh, and it's typical of using mock ups in military parades. You think it's wise to display the real thing when there are thousands of spectators? Stick to playing video games!

Anonymous said...

According of an knowledge of the "experts" on this blog, it may be a "fake" mock-up ???

Anonymous said...

I have a better understand of these things more than you think. The Soviets had a lack of missiles so they increased their numbers by building fake wooden mock-ups and paraded them on Red square.Just because Iran has built this mock-up doesn't mean they can build this anytime soon.If tomorrow they show a mock-up of a manned moon lander doesn't mean they can actually build it.
This mock-up was used as a cheap propaganda exercise on one of the regimes wish list and people like you have wet dreams over them because you are such a gullible person!

fraud or no fraud i love it! These phycological games are intrging! Gotta hand it to the the shia aligned powers and groups their latteral and littoral approach to the art of war!

Hi everyone, no matter how we comments. But we must thinks like them to get the actual picture. Mullah has a big plan for this kind of prototype and make its as simple and useful or produce thousand of it for the people of Iran to commit suicide as a KAMIKAZI as a weapon to deterrent any war against them. Even some said "Monkey" also can fly such jet. Be careful with your comment and not every advance technology can win the war, if one jet can bring nuclear weapon with "good pilot" it’s become smart weapon. No GPS, No advance and sophisticated technological instrument such as F22 or Pak T 50 & J 20 or what so ever inside the jet. Remember WW II, simple Russian Tank T 55 was produced thousand of it can defect German army by attacking from every corner? Who knows, mullah also train monkey only to pin point ISRAEL as a Banana or candy with thousand of its attacking ISRAEL in one time…..ha…ha…

You have made a very good point to the "naysayers" that:
"The one thing it tells us for sure is that Iranian engineering task forces are indeed working on some new designs..."

To make even that kind of mockup it requires months if not years of studies, tests and calculations by the standards of the most few countries that had made that kind of mockups.

It is not important that there are no engines; may be they will get few for tests from Syria, Belarus or North Korea.
Russia has been testing its T-50 and the new engines are still on design tables...

Someone mentioned about the 10 years old Shafagh prototype witn description, that it was a "failure".. not mentioning that there was newer desigh of the Saeqeh, that was manufactured into the series of several aircrafts...

In all countries that design airplanes, used to be large numbers of single prototypes, before the right ones emerged...

And it is distasteful on this blog that there are "people" (proxies of the authors), who at any possibility try to depreciate efforts of the brave scientists and the efforts of the honorable majority of the Iranian nation.

What a load of horseshit. I've built models that look better than this ludicrous piece of garbage.

You obviously haven't the slightest clue about aircraft. This thing is a slapped-together mutation, a joke, an abomination. The "great" nation of Iran embarrasses itself once again.
