Larijani Forced to Abandon Speech in Qom

Attacked by Ahmadinejad Supporters
On Sunday, supporters of President Ahmadinejad forced Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to abandon his speech in Massoumeh Mosque in Qom. Larijani, an MP from Qom, was making the speech as part of the celebration of the 34th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in the holy city when Ahmadinejad supporters began chanting pro-Ahmadinejad slogans and threw shoes and prayers stones at him. Larijani tried to calm the crowd, saying, “We must not spoil this celebration with such acts,” but was rushed out of the mosque.

Today, Majlis Deputy Speaker Boroujerdi denounced the attack, at one of the holiest mosques in the country, calling it an “insult” against Islamic revolution and the supreme leader. (Khaneh-e Melat, 11 February)

  2. I am confused! Could the experts there please shed some light on this? Who are these bunch of bold people, out of line with the establishment, challenging the clerical supremacy? In Qom , the seat of Shia clerical power!?

  3. It's amusing, really. Ahmadinejad and his supporters are already gearing up for 2017 presidential election.
