The U.S. military announced today an anti-mine exercise in “the Middle
East's international waterways” in May with more than 20 nations participating.
“This year's effort will reaffirm the ongoing, global cooperation that
this mission enjoys with the international community's strong support for free
trade,” General James Mattie, commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM),
said in a statement. (Reuters, 4 February)
The drill will be a follow-up to the IMCMEX 12 exercise held last
September, by a broad coalition of states to counter any attempt Iran might
make to disrupt Gulf shipping in response to an Israeli or U.S. strike on its
nuclear facilities, Reuters reported.

Much needed, the last effort reportedly failed to meet expectations.
ReplyDeleteYou mean just like that fake mockup that is supposed to be a "stealth" plane?
DeleteNUCLEAR WASTE ALARM!!
ReplyDeletewatch out for nuclear waste disposal in the high seas around the gulf waters! .MANY NATIONS VIEW the presence of US war ships off their coasts 'doing some exercise' with disdain fearing that it might be a smokescreen to dispose nuclear waste!!.
BBW- your comments are waste matter rather loosely formed around a nucleus of ignorance
DeleteAll I can say is that Iran better keep most of its navy spread out in the open seas 90% of the time.
ReplyDeleteIf they remain inside the Arabian Gulf, when the USA attacks they will be destroyed within a few hours, unless Iran conducts several airboure drops (good luck to those pilots!) of the mines, mines will not be a problem for very long.
The west has finally perfected much of its air/sea robotic mine sweeping/destroying capabilities, Israel's technology in this area is the worlds best and in the last five years the western nations have adopted it.
Cheers!
There is no such thing as an "Arabian Gulf". It is the "Persian Gulf".
Deletethe way things are going, perhaps not for much longer.
DeleteSpeaking of Naval operations involving the US 5th Fleet. USN and Yemeni forces seized a Iranian Dhow carrying illegal arms to anti-gov forces in Yemen. The weapons included arty rockets, NVGs, MANPADs, and explosives.
