World Powers to Make “Substantial” New Offer to Iran

Effort to Resolve Nuclear Dispute in Almaty

France on Thursday confirmed that world powers will make a “substantial” new offer to Iran in a bid to resolve the dispute over its nuclear program at talks in Kazakhstan, AFP reported today.

The next round of talks between Iran and P5+1 will be held on 26 February in Almaty. France has not disclosed any details on the new offer to Iran.

“We will make a new offer that will contain significant new elements,” the French foreign ministry's deputy spokesman, Vincent Floreani, said.

“We hope that Iran will attend this meeting with a constructive spirit and will be ready to discuss, in detail and with a renewed perspective, aspects of its nuclear program that remain to be clarified,” Floreani said. “We want a true exchange, leading to concrete results.” (AFP, 21 February)

    1. They must lift or suspend all (if not majority) of the sanctions imposed after the 2009, when they want to expect any agreements...

  2. Well, what's the offer? Hopefully it will be in the form of the previous Russian "roadmap". But let's be realistic, expectations are at an all-time low given the recent accounts of U.S. duplicity and outright poor policy by former Bush and Obama administration officials in both National Security and State Department.

    1. I don’t know what the offer is, we’ll know that by next Tuesday. But there will be another major problem aside from what you have alluded to: Iran’s elites are so divided on the issue of accepting a compromise that it would be safe for the leadership to say no to any Western proposal until the June presidential election.

    2. The "elites" (there are no elites or mixed views on sanctions!!), have to obey the Supreme Leader's guidelines...
