Bushehr Earthquake (Photos)

Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Not Damaged

The 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Bushehr province on Iran’s Persian Gulf coast (see the map below) left at least 37 people dead and more than 850 injured and destroyed many buildings. Shocks from the quake were felt across the Gulf in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage to Bushehr nuclear power plant located 50 miles from the epicenter of the quake.

  2. No doubt like the part of Azarbaijan that was struck by earthquake last year this area will remain in ruins for a long time to come.In fact parts of Bam is still in ruins for over a decade and that despite the Billions of Dollars earned and wasted on Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations.

  3. It is none other than the 'Creator'-created natural disaster that can simply take place at any time, any where and on any nation and country around the globe and of course, no any human on earth could, even at the very least, afford to deter or stop it from occurring. Just try to be patient, pray and leave the unwanted and unexpected matter to the true 'Creator' of the Heaven and Earth as well. The truth is God only knows.

    1. Oh,praying applies to the Iranian people does it ? But for the Palestinians and Hezbollah they're inundated with Iran's cash.Yeah lets leave the place in ruins and pray that the creator will rebuild peoples homes.God only knows why this regime came about and has supporters like you.

  7. Despite a lot of moronic comments, the FACT is that Iran is on a quake prone seismic fault and these unfortunate events will happen occasionally as they do even in the mega-superpower China which also has regular seismic activity. The only long term solution is to have a very strict building code and design standards. As an engineer, familiar with structures, Iranian universities particularly the better ones, now have serious research facilities to study the seismic activity on the Eurasian plates that impact on the Iranian plateau. Luckily, Iran, particularly southern provinces bordering the Persian Gulf are sparsely populated but construction quality is rather poor, based on mud-brick/stone adobe structures with no reinforced foundations or ceiling beams, let alone reinforcing rebar steel bars that are used in Tokyo or other advanced nations to help concrete withstand tension forces and seismic sway. If Iran strictly enforced concrete reinforced by steel and Welded Wire Fabric construction, then by sheer design and construction methods the structures will be naturally sufficient and strong to withstand compression forces and seismic activity even at higher Richter energy release levels. Iranian quakes have been ranging between 6 to 7 plus or in the major category in terms of sheer energy produced. The recent Bushehr quake was 6.3 on the Richter Scale. Fortunately, in Tehran and other more prosperous urban areas new designs and construction methodologies are being introduced. The plan to move the capital to a new site was not a bad one either. Iran has enough resources and brains to slowly come to grips with these natural calamities. May God Bless Iran and the victims of these natural disasters,

    1. Unfortunately the real disaster is the Islamic terrorist regime that is occupying Iran.
