37 Killed, 800 Injured
A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck in southwest Iran, not far from
the country's first nuclear power station, the US Geological Survey reported
today. The quake's epicentre is 89km (55 miles) from Bushehr.
People on social media reported feeling the quake across the Gulf in
Dubai and Abu Dhabi. There is no word yet on the extent of any damage. (BBC, 9

UPDATE: The governor of Bushehr, Fereydoon
Hasanvand, told state television on Tuesday night that at least 37 people have
been killed and 800 injured in the powerful earthquake.
Shocks from the quake that hit near the southern port
city of Bushehr were felt across the Persian Gulf in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the
United Arab Emirates, provoking brief evacuation of some office
towers. Qatar ordered evacuation of all tall residential and business buildings.

Your comment was deleted due to misinformation on radioactive leaks at Bushehr plant. Such comments by an anonymous source is irresponsible because there are no reports of radiation leaks in Bushehr.

Unfortunately Iran is on a seismic fault and these events will happen occassionaly as tectonic shifts on Eurasian plates. It is good that the government has upgraded construction and design rules to make the buildings and infrastructure more resilient. In any case, rest in peace to all the victims of the quake.
Posting ill-wishes and Iran-hate seems to be the lowest common human denominator for some of the imbeciles on this site. It just shows the gutter mentality of the self-loathing fools.
