Iran Rejects Possibility of Radiation Leak at Bushehr

The Deputy Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Ahmadian, said there was no possibility of radiation leaks at Bushehr nuclear power plant following a 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook southeastern Iran, with its epicenter at 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the reactor.

“Bushehr nuclear power plant has been constructed to withstand an eight Richter magnitude earthquake near the plant,” Ahmadian said. “Bushehr NPP has been designed based on the most advanced and strict international regulations."
Ahmadian made the comments after the GCC called on the IAEA to “send a specialized technical team to inspect the Bushehr nuclear plant and investigate potential damage.”
Russia who built the plant has also assured the international community that the plant is fully compliant with high-level safety standards and IAEA safeguards.
