But we were told the economy is "in ruins" and everyone is unhappy in Iran....

This is beautiful and the scenery from shomali Tehran is just breathtaking. Oh yeah, according to our local collection of Iran-hating ranting nutters (who more than likely could not find Iran on a map) everything is in ruins and 82 million Iranians are so "unhappy" that you can see that on their smiling, well dressed and well fed faces. LONG LIVE THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN and health, prosperity and happiness to all Iranians.

Try to logically imagine and see what could the iranian government afford to do in planning , designing, building, making up and arranging all its huge mega infrastructures all over the nation, stretching out starting from the Caspian sea to the Presian Gulf-engulfed islands and its vastly stretches of beaches 'IF' the sovereign nation is completely free from all unfairly kinds of long years of heavy pressures, threats and sanctions from the world's most cowardly criminal nation of the Zionist Regime State of Israel-controlled,-commanded and -ordered United Satans of America's leaderships(certainly not including all those nice, good and respected american people). What a inhuman satan!

Well , you obviously get paid in Dollars for your imbecile propaganda; and do not dare to patronize and ridicule the Iranian peole

Iran’s Annual Inflation Rate Is 82.5%

In Wednesday’s FT (“Iran warned on food security,” April 3), Najmeh Bozorgmehr reports Iran’s official annual inflation rate as 28.7 per cent. This statistic does not reflect the most recent official annual data — an inflation rate of 31.5 per cent. That said, this number is still well below Iran’s actual inflation rate. Indeed, it represents what I would call a “lying statistic.”

Since September 2012, I have been estimating Iran’s inflation rate using a standard, widely-accepted methodology. By measuring changes in the black-market (read: free-market) IRR/USD exchange rate, it is possible to calculate an implied inflation rate.

When we do so, a much different picture emerges. Iran’s inflation briefly peaked at hyperinflation levels, on 17 October 2012, with an annual inflation rate of 204.7 per cent. Currently, Iran’s annual inflation rate is actually 82.5 per cent — a rate more than double the official rate.

Why aren't you writing about economics here instead of someone who points at handfuls of buildings and blurts "look Iran economy good!" ?

there's a guardian article on the construction boom in Iran and why sanctions may help the country avoid a property bubble by artificially controlling it preventing a bust like in the west

to the previous poster he cant get prayed in dollars its impossible as Iran is subject to sanctions on that so maybe he is not getting payed for lousy blog articles few people read

comparing the dollar exchange rate to inflation is obviously flawed to calculate inflation anybody with simple economics will tell you that though the this only accounts for greater cost of imported materials but iran isnt using dollars to import thing's much anyway never mind street vendors on the black market

I doubt if your Farsi is good enough either as you have been so far away to have an idea of what's happening in Iran. Yes, of course sanctions are crippling and they are making life tougher for people, but people are still living happy healthy lives. I live in Tehran and have not seen any other place on earth, with the exception of Italy perhaps, where people have more fun instead of working hard. The point here is not that there is no inflation or sanctions, the point is that Iranians are not dying because of them. Life is going on and people have learned to cope with these difficulties. What they cannot cope with is a self appointed committee of "world powers" telling them what to do and what not to do. With a flawless English like yours, I'm surprised you couldn't understand mr. Pyruz's comment. Or, maybe you just wanted to over interpret it so that you can get off on a rant about how Iran is being destroyed.

Yeah sure,people are having fun when they gather at a square and amuse themselves by watching a mobile hanging :o)

@ Paul thanks for the offer but I am really not an expert on this;

But it seems that both Iran and USA want the keep the situation in this way for now - an interesting analysis here :
