First Official Visit to Islamic Republic
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported today that Tehran has
hosted an Afghan Taliban delegation. The Taliban had come from Doha, Qatar,
where they have recently opened a representative office. Fars said the
delegation held talks with Iranian intelligence officials, without disclosing
any details. This is the first time that an official Taliban delegation visits
the Islamic Republic.
The Associated Press reporting on the visit said it signals Iran could be seeking the role of a regional mediator between the Taliban and Karzai’s government. (AP, 1 June)

This is good strategic move on Iran's part as the major regional power. Most Pashtuns have high regards for Iran despite Saudi Wahabbi troublemaking. Taliban now see Iranian influence in the Northern Alliance Tajik and Hazara Dari speaking areas as a stabilizing factor as Pashtun hostility towards the Paki puppet military grows. Iran is the key to Afghan stabilization as US is booted out.
ReplyDeleteindeed no Nation the world over has invested in humanitarian projects and rebuilding of Afghanistan than Iran. The Taliban know very well Iran political and military clout .the resilience of the Taliban and Hezbollah have all been credited to IRAN by no other than western sources!!.
DeleteIf IRI genuinely believes in the righteousness of its cause free from hypocrisy, then it should refuse to do anything with these men. Are these guys less evil and trustworthy than the likes of Barak Obama and John Kerry ?

what humanitarian projects?
what the heck are you smoking?
I was always in favor of peace talks in Afghanistan. I have visited the country many times in the past few years. Post-2014, a coalition of Afghan patriots, including some of the former so-called warlords who will not abandon their homeland no matter what, and some newcomers in national and provisional governments, whose expertise is vital to the future of the country, need to cut a deal with more moderate elements of the Taliban to form a government of national unity to stop disintegration of Afghanistan. The Iranian move to invite the official Taliban delegation is a positive move and should be applauded. Let's hope for a breakthrough in Afghan peace talks. The country will need a stable government after post-U,S. and post-Karzai period.
