Egyptian Military Edging Close to Stage a Coup

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi rejected an ultimatum by the country’s military to bend to protests that has engulfed the entire country, as the country’s generals took over the flagship newspaper Al Ahram, and on its Wednesday’s front page described their plans to remove Morsi from office. (The New York Times, 2 July)

Morsi made his comments during an angry and defiant speech on Tuesday night. He insisted he was the legitimate leader of the country, and hinted that any effort to remove him by force could plunge the nation into chaos.Morsi also seemed to disregard the record numbers of Egyptians who took to the streets demanding he resign.

Under the banner headline “removal or resignation,” Al Ahram reported that the generals would “abolish the controversial constitution” and form a committee of experts to write a new charter; form an interim presidential council with three members led by the chief of the constitutional court; and put a military leader in charge of the executive branch as an interim prime minister (The New York times, 2 July)
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr resigned tonight, bringing to six the number of ministers to abandon Morsi since the outbreak Sunday of mass anti-Morsi protests.

US is the original creator of "Muslim Brotherhood" and has used it to destabilize the Muslim world, including Syria. Morsi is a US citizen and a CIA recruit since his university days in Florida. This idiot will literally destroy whatever is left of begging bowl Egypt. The Saudis and Qataris are doling out billions to keep the 84 million dirt poor Egyptians fed while the US feeds the puppet corrupt military. Egypt is screwed anyway since Ethiopia is building a major dam that will impede the flow of Nile by about 30% and the dwindling agricultural areas of the Nile delta and upper Egypt will be destroyed. Nile since the beginning of time has been the lifeline of Egypt and even now 95% of Egyptians live with 100 miles of its banks. Really feel sorry for Egypt and the hapless Arabs being manipulated by US/Zionists.

Egyptian protests target Obama as top supporter of Morsi regime

CAIRO — Egypt’s mass protest campaign against President Mohammed
Morsi has turned against the United States, deemed the leading supporter of
the Muslim Brotherhood regime.

The protests throughout Egypt have been highlighted by anti-U.S.
placards and slogans that portray President Barack Obama as the mainstay of
Morsi. Many of the protesters demanded the expulsion of U.S. ambassador to
Cairo, Anne Patterson.

Obama Supports Terrorism,” a placard at the center of Cairo’s demonstration read.

Opposition leaders pointed to the refusal by the United States to condemn the human and civil rights abuses of the Morsi regime. Some claimed that Obama has signaled to Morsi in both statements and private messages that Washington would not demand democratic reforms.

So far, more than a million Egyptians have taken to the streets to demand Morsi’s resignation. At least 16 people have been killed in clashes between the protesters and Brotherhood fighters. On July 1, the
Brotherhood headquarters in Cairo were ransacked.

On July 1, Brotherhood gunmen opened fire on Egyptian security forces
outside Cairo. The forces arrested 15 bodyguards of the Brotherhood’s deputy
chief Khairat Shater.

Tattered posters of the U.S. ambassador littered Tahrir Square, the main
demonstration site against Morsi. Ms. Patterson has also been accused by the
Brotherhood of interfering in Egypt’s domestic affairs. CIA hosts the largest Middle-East station in Egypt and US control over its military and government runs deep to the extent of even vetting senior military leaders, politicians, imams and officials. Most Egyptians resent such blatant US control over their ancient nation and are particularly offended by its support for Muslim Brotherhood.

really, people actually read and repeat bullship from the World Tribune?

I guess idiots who can believe the garbage published by PRESS-TV won't have much difficulty getting their hands and heads full of the crap published by Rev. Moon follower Robert Morton.

Anon 3:32...Don't forget the Americans helped installed the Islamists in Iran as well.

If you think Morsi was the "enemy of Iran" then you haven't seen nothing yet.

Doubt it.

I would like to mention about mysterious Wael Ghonim, who was one of the "masterminds" of the Egyptian revolution, and some say that thanks to him the military's influence has been preserved "for the future"....

Mr. Ghonim was, to my best knowledge, dispatched by the Google as a their representative for the Middle East.

As most you know, the Google was established, by Sergey Brin; and others, who had emigrated from the Soviet Union (or Russia) as a Jewish child, and use to despise present political system of Russia...

Are you serious? Egypt is bankrupt and has less than a billion dollars in its FOREX reserves, its military is totally controlled by US, it can not feed its 84 million rapidly growing population and is failed state. It will head towards a civil war and continued implosion. That was the US/Zionist plan to weaken and destroy the idiotic Arabs from within to secure Zionist hegemony in the destabilized Arab world. Arabs don't amount to anything without Egypt and the arch-Zionist Kissinger put the plan of Egyptian destruction after the 1973 Ramadan war. Syria is suffering the same US/Zionist evil but luckily has a good leader in President Assad, a motivated and powerful military and strong friends like Iran, Russia and China. Egypt has nothing to offer and hence faces total collapse.

He kept the Israeli embassy open and shut down the Syrian one. So there! He got what he deserved.
