It says it all if some Afghan narcotics smugglers can shoot this 30 year old piece of junk. What chance will it have against F 22's and Typhoons. You bache Basijis are just hilarious. hahahah

    4. You silly lollipop boy! The brave pilot was downed by an IGLA which is very lethal at low altitudes, the Afghan and Iraqi resistance has shot down many US F-16 and F-15 by them too. You Iran-hating morons have no brains but malice. Shame on you for mocking a brave pilot's death who was trying to stop drug smugglers. How low can you sink?

    5. Anon 8:02 PM...Instead of trying to act smart by calling blogers silly names. Why don't you show the proof that those F16s and F15s were shot down by "the Afghan and Iraqi resistance"?

I tell you why you can't because no F16s and F15s were shot down!

Total F14s,F16s,F18s and F15s lost in Iraq:

      F14..1 crashed due to malfunction.
F16..5 crashed due to malfunction and pilot error.
F18..5 crashed 4 due to pilot error and malfuntion and one by friendly fire.
F15..1 crashed due to malfunction near Tikrit.
      ---------------------------------------------------
Total F16s,F15s and F15s lost in Afghanistan:

F16s..3 crashed,2 due to malfunction and 1 due to over running runway in Bagram airfield.
F15s..2 crashed due to malfunction and pilot error.
      F18..1 due to malfunction.

    6. Anon. Aug 5:th 8:02 Aka "Bache Basiji"
Where in my comment did I mock the pilot?
I maintain that the Mirage F1 at this point is a piece of Junk compared to the modern air forces of any Nato country and will be shoot down by them easily.
Regarding the pilot, if he was a pilot of the Iranian Air force, may he rest in peace and he was indeed a hero.
If he was flying for the IRGC air force branch, and was shot down, I can not be any happier as all of them are murderers of the Iranian nation regardless of in which capacity. They would have bombed the Iranian nation if told so by their beloved "Fuhrer" therefore traitors in my opinion.
Now go and suck on this lollipop.

    7. LOL. Wikipedia has much credibility as you. All US planes that are shot down in Iraq and Af-pak are "accidents" and "friendly fire"! ROFLMYHPAO (figure that one out Wiki boy).

  2. interesting that Iran is still operating some of Saddam's old Iraqi airplanes, planes that didn't stand a chance against the US Air Force of 25 years ago.

  4. Amazing achievement by any standards to completely rebuild a modern fighter without any manufacturers support or even flying logs. The French SNECMA Atar 09K50 engines are very temperamental and difficult to maintain. The French still operate over 240 of these excellent aircraft and crazy Saddam received the upgraded F1-EQ models. Iraqi models were some of the most advanced planes built in the last assembly blocks in 1982-86 as Saddam's pilots, mostly Egyptians, dreaded the IRIAF F-14A Persian Cats which were shooting down the MIGS and Sukhoi like pigeons, so the French with US/Saudi money sold Saddam these planes to counter Iranian air-superiority and better pilots. The French MATRA and MAJIC 550 missiles were better the Russian Atolls on MIG-21. However, the Iranian Sidewinders,Sparrows and Hughes 54 Phoenix in the skilled hands of experienced pilots like Major Jalal Zandi quickly neutralized the short window the Iraqis had. BTW, Major later Lt.Gen. Jalal Zandi flying a top cover F-14A near Kharg oil platforms downed 2 of these aircraft and is recognized as the world's Ace on an F-14A with maximum air to air confirmed kills.

EQ was better equipped with an upgraded engine, with new and better onboard systems like computer of Croucet data, new Head-up (HUD) display, digital controls of armament etc. The unique differences with the F1.B are the use of zero-zero ejection seats that they equip to F. Also there is a version of recognition with secondary capacity of denominated attack F.1 CR of which France bought 80 units, and has specific equipment like linear sweeping infrared SCM Super Cyclope the SAT, a radar Cyrano IVMR for the terrain reconnaissance and two 75 panoramic cameras of and 150mm.

The French have used them in Afghanistan, Mali and other African colonies. The Iranian Mirages have been modified to house both French Matra, Majic and Fattar (Sidewinder and Sparrow) missiles. Iran may have acquired more of these planes in the recent Libyan chaos.

  5. It is an amazing achievement, could they have been adapted to use r73/r74 or r27 air to air missiles as well?

    1. The Vympel and other Russian missiles are more compatible with Russian aircraft in IRIAF inventory and the Chinese F‐7MP Airguard versions. Iran has been very successful in producing the improved AIM9 Sidewinder into the FATTAR which is similar to a PL-7. Iran also has a large inventory of MAJIC 550 and MATRA AAM. Their performance is quite similar to the Sidewinder or Fattar.

    2. Yes,but I have seen pictures of the f14s carrying the R73 and it would be a better missile than the sidewinder models that iran operates

    3. Yes, the Persian Cats are totally overhauled to use both Eastern and Western systems. The Mirages so far have not been modified for the R73 as far as I have read or heard. However, you may see that soon. The airframes of the Iraqi F1EQ are in very good shape and have very little metal fatigue so their mid-life upgrade should take them to 2025 like the F-14A. Iranian aircraft industries have become very proficient in complete overhauls. I think the prospect of negotiating more aircraft from Russia looks very good now considering the common strategic goals of both nations.

  6. They have become so good at it, that the French air Force is now asking the Iranian technicians to overhaul their Mirages for them as well !
The next step is to ask the Iranians to Overhaul the Dessault Rafael for them as too (Without any manuals) and then maybe build the 6:th Generation of the Fighter jets for France !!

  7. Turkish airforce in chaos as more than 100 pilots resign after 300 military officers imprisoned after coup plot. Turkish airforce had a hard time getting good pilots as the Turkish Airforce has a very poor record against Greece and lately Syria where a number of planes have been downed by Kurdish manpads.

Over 100 pilots bail from Turkish Air Force as Erdogan-military tensions simmer

ANKARA — Turkey has acknowledged that scores of pilots resigned from the Air Force in 2013.

The Defense Ministry has confirmed reports of a massive resignation at the Air Force. Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz said more than 100 pilots left the service in the space of a month in 2013.But parliamentary sources said the resignations were linked to the arrest and detention of hundreds of officers accused of plotting to overthrow the increasingly unpopular Islamist government of Prime Minister Recep Erdogan and his policies of dragging Turkey into the Arab quagmire.

The resignations marked another element in the tension between the
military and Erdogan. So far, more than 20 generals and admirals have been
prosecuted on charges of espionage and participating in a coup.

The defense minister’s statement was released as the Supreme Military
Council replaced virtually the entire military command. The General Staff
also reported the resignation of an air force general linked to the killing
of 34 civilians in an air strike in 2011 at Uludere near the border with
    Iraq.

“Some news reports claimed that three generals from the Air Forces
Command resigned from their posts, and that their resignations were related
to the ongoing court cases concerning the Uludere incident,” the General
    Staff said.

Gracias. J.M.
