Russia: Geneva Talks Were 'Quite Promising'

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said today that talks this week in Geneva between Iran and six major powers over Iran’s nuclear program were “very tough but quite, quite promising.” (Reuters, 17 October)
Lukashevich sounded more upbeat than Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, the Russian negotiator at the talks in Geneva, who said on Wednesday, at the end of the talks, that the sides were far apart and there was no guarantee of further progress toward ending the nuclear impasse. (Reuters)
