Iran Could be ‘Reliable’ Gas Supplier to EU - Minister

Amid Ukraine Crisis
Iran could be a “reliable, secure and long-term” supplier of gas to Europe, Iranian Minister of Industry Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh said in an interview with business daily Handelsblatt. (AFP/ Al Arabiya News, 14 April)

“We don’t want to compete with Russia. But we know that Europe’s demand for gas is increasing and would like a share in this,” Nematzadeh said. “We have the energy reserves and cooperation plans. But as far as Russia is concerned, that is a decision for Europe alone,” he added.

The minister’s statement seems to be taking advantage of the West’s irritation against Russia’s involvement in Ukraine. There have been calls in the West from influential opinion makers for reduction of Europe’s reliance on Russian gas.

Unfortunately this won't be happening for Iran under this regime.

A liar is never reliable

Well unless they want to de-escalate their issues with Russia or deprive themselves of natural Gas, the EU has to deal with either Iran or Russia. They cant just sanction the worlds 2 largest suppliers of NG. The EU cant have its cake and eat it too

The europeans cut their own throats when they threw away billions in trade and decades of business relationships with iran on american orders, why the hell would iran ever trust them again, let europe rely on the unreliable russians for all their energy needs, the europeans and the russians deserve each other

No they didn't. It was the Islamic regime's confrontational attitude and paranoia that has cut the throat of Iran's chances with industrialized world. Since the beginning the regime has chosen the path of crisis management through the deliberate policy of confrontation and isolationism.

I dont know what recent history you have been reading, but it was the europeans who broke off economic relations with iran,at no small cost to themselves, and last time I looked it was the west threatening iran both economically and militarily with "all options on the table"

Obviously you haven't been reading any history regarding this issue. Since the beginning the regime has chosen the path of crisis management through the deliberate policy of confrontation and isolationism. Starting with the terrorist attack on the US embassy in Tehran. I know you apologists like to twist history to suit your purposes, but I'm afriad it doesn't work here.

The only "apologists" who "like to twist history" are the pro western ones like your self who seek to try and blame iran for the wests own actions and policies,a good example of this would be the europeans throwing away of billions in trade with iran simply to show the us that they supported their policies no matter what the cost to themselves. The only ones practicing the policies of containment and isolation is the west against iran, and it has been at no small cost to the west, just ask the europeans how much they`ve had to pay for these policies
