Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, the
Emir of Kuwait, will visit Iran on 31 May – 1 June at the invitation of Iranian
President Hassan Rouhani. The trip will be the Emir’s first to Iran since
assuming power in 2006. Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, said
today that the visit “will usher in a new page in Kuwait-Iran relations.” (IRNA/Reuters,

Since becoming president last August, Rouhani has pushed hard to improve relations with the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Kuwait is also home to a sizeable Shia minority.
