Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced today
that he would lead an Iranian delegation in bilateral nuclear talks with the
Americans on 9-10 June in Geneva. (Fars News Agency, 7 June)
Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns and Under Secretary of
State Wendy Sherman will lead the U.S. delegation. (Al Monitor, 7 June)
The bilateral talks will take place ahead of 16-20 June
meeting between Iran and IAEA apparently in an effort to prevent another failed
meeting, as was the case with the latest meeting in May.
Meanwhile, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported today
that Iran considers the inspection of Parchin military base by the IAEA outside
the scope of its agreement with the nuclear watchdog agency
The agreement had called for Iran to provide information and explanation to the IAEA about its previous work on development of Exploring Bridge Wire (EBW) detonators that are used to initiate detonation reaction in explosive materials and commonly used in nuclear weapons. IAEA suspects the work took place at Parchin.
