Iraqi Shia and Sunni leaders met tonight in
Baghdad and called for national unity in the wake of ISIL advances in the
country. Their spokesman, former premier Ibrahim al-Jafari, flanked by Prime Ninister
Nuri al-Maliki, former speaker of parliament Osama al-Nujaifi, and head of SIIC
Ammar al-Hakim and others leaders, said after a closed-door meeting that “defending the state
and protecting its sovereignty and dignity” is the priority. He added that
internal political process, presumably between Shias, Sunnis and Kurds, would
be “under review.”

ReplyDeleteThey appear grim and uncomfortable. Looks like Hakim has switched back to religious robes from the woodland camo BDUs he donned last week.
This is just another example that religion and politics doesn't mix. These people will never learn. Iran must become secular and banish religion out of politics and meddling into private lives of Iranians. Iran has learned this the hard way.
