Amid
political turmoil in Iraq, Prime Minister Maliki today met military
commanders in Baghdad. Maliki's office issued a statement on its website saying that the premier had urged military commanders to stay away from the political crisis and to commit to their military and security duties to protect the country, the New York Times reported.
Prime Minister Maliki appears to have backed off threat to use force to stay in power by declaring state of emergency or martial law. Good news for the country.
