IAEA Report: Little Progress in Iran Nuclear Investigation

The latest IAEA report released today shows that little substantive headway has been made in the long-running investigation by the UN nuclear watchdog agency into alleged research and development activities by Iran on explosive devices that could be used in nuclear weapons. (Reuters, 5 September)

Lack of progress and non-compliance with the five-step transparency agreement Iran signed with IAEA last November could complicate efforts in reaching a comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers by the 24 November deadline. Iran said last week that it had complied with three out of the five steps in the IAEA agreement, but the two issues dealing with detonators and the R&D site have not been resolved yet.
