Iran
and the six world powers today announced that they have reached an agreement on
key elements of a final deal to begin writing the text of the final comprehensive agreement.
The final agreement would end a 12-year impasse over Iran’s nuclear program, and all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran will be lifted.

A historic day!
ReplyDeleteGood work to all, especially Dr. Zarif!
Most excellent. Job well done by the Obama and Rouhani administrations. Glad I voted for them.
ReplyDeleteJob well done by Obama not the Iranian who kneeled
DeleteAlthough I welcome this agreement that is hard earned, I ponder the amount of humiliation that Iran brought upon itself through previous administration and leader's rhetoric. Anyone who listened to Obama's speech sensed that Iran was treated like a naughty schoolkid by the headmaster.
ReplyDeleteThe good point coming out of this is the fact that Kerry and Zarif have built personal relationship that hopefully will go beyond nuclear agreement and will pave way to better understanding between Iran and US with reduced mistrust and risk. Others involved do not really matter. They are just bean counters!
Total capitulation by Iran if you read the terms.
ReplyDeleteDear Lord Ahmadinejad did a dumb thing in 2005! Wow a decade wasted for absolutely nothing!
Now those Iranian negotiators have brought those matters as a fish to shallow waters, and the fish will be easy to be seen ....
Delete+A
I have a feeling that Iran made too many concessions, I am surprised Khamenei supported all of this.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I hope the conditions for the average Iranian improve, that is what is most important.
He had no choice. Iranians are really suffering under the sanctions despite certain deluded pictures of building construction. Some youth have lost a decade of their lives over this. not as bad as the iraq war or anything but really stupid nonetheless.
DeleteAhmadinejad might be the stupidest must dangerous idiot in recent iranian history.
During Ahmadinejad's era, all that nuclear acceleration of nuclear development had taken place, so it has brought the bargaining to the higher levels, for newcomer Zarif, and it makes his job much easier, than for the previous negotiators.
DeleteThis stage of the agreement doesn't guarantee a final outcome, because it has advanced only to 30 % for all job to be done.
Coming events in the Ukraine will certainly affect an outcome of these negotiations, and so far Russia is not a "bean counter",, like some use to suggest, and where the authors ignore information that Russia declined to consent to a future "automatic renewal of the UN sanctions, in case of allegations about Iran's "noncompliance".
Lifting of sanctions for an export of oil may not be so valuable like an return of the $100 billions of Iranian assets from amounts owed to Iran for previously sold oil.....
Like I previously stated in my comment; couple days earlier, Obama have two objectives for those negotiations, the first is to be 'a peacemaker' in history books, the another one IS to empower his party before coming elections, with an argument........ ( read my previous days' comment ).
A-F, Dissident from usa
Libya, Syria and Iraq all had a nuclear programme. Ghaddafi gave up his entire programme and got nothing in return (except an overthrowal of his government). The Syrian and Iraqi programme both got destroyed by Israeli airstrikes.
ReplyDeleteThis leaves us with North Korea, they fooled the west and are currently a 'nuclear weapons state. But their population is living in deplorable conditions.
Iran keeps it's programme and the benefits of sanctions removal. 10-15 years might seem like a long time, but as we Iranians say 'chesm bezani tamumeh'.
North Korea fooled no one. they were protected by the Chinese who wish to keep an utterly weak North Korea dependent on them and forestall Korean re-unification until the Chinese can build up trade ties with the South Koreans to the point where South Korea will be less closely allied with the US.
DeleteDon't worry they are smarter that us at the end of 10-15 years they would play another game to impose another 10-15 year term. And do not be such optimistic unlike strict terms for Iran such as dismantling centrifuges in Fordo, removal of sanctions as leader wanted will not be at once (will be in stages) and will hinge on IAEA approval therefore there are too many if and buts involved here for them to scape doing their part after Iran has done its. In addition they will keep the structure of the sanctions intact should they want to pull the string in a moment they want. I take my hat off for Zarif as him and his boss did not have any choice. For 37 years they want to be self sufficient and yet when a pressure is applied they collapse very easily. It is the way of mullahs to put the nation and country into harms way and make people to suffer for 8. 10 and 12 years and then drink the cup of poison.
ReplyDeleteI do not know where these so called anonymous people come from, they could not be Iranians but I guess they could be hizbullahis or Houthis because Iranian people are celebrating the deal. Finally in 35 years Iran made a sensible decision which allows Iran to rebuild the economy and regain its position in the region. Corrupt supporters of Ahmadinejad had boxed Iran into a position of having to enrich uranium and storing it as an ideological position in order to bring about UN sanctions and continue to steal from Iranian people. Rouhani again solved this issue by reducing the stores of uranium to almost nothing and use the stored uranium into nuclear fuel and using it. This looks like a concession but it is not because an increasing store of uranium is expensive to keep an useless if not processed into nuclear fuel. The heavy water reactor will be re designed by US and Europe at their expense into a much more advanced facility and the 5+1 will remove the nuclear waste for re processing. Dealing with that nuclear waste without reprocessing facility would have been a massive problem which under sanctions Iran could not deal with alone this alone could have stopped arak being comissioned. In addition US department of energy would replace Tehran light water reactor which needs replacing. There were rumors that arak reactor had serious design flaws which were ignored by Ahmadinejad and was never going to be finished without 5+1 help.
ReplyDeleteThis deal once it is agreed will mean that all the nuclear facilities currently build will be used including fardo and Iran will get more modern and safer facilities. This is why Zarif wanted details and technical involvement by Drs Salehi and Moniz both respected nuclear scientist.
For the US and EU it means they can be involved in Iran's nuclear industry and lucrative contracts from the word go without having to wait 10-15 years. For Iran it means it is not limited to Russian technology which by the way is quite advanced also.
Well done to Zarif, Salehi, Araghchi, Takhtravanchi and the brothers Rouhani (Fereydoon) for pulling this off.
On this historic day, I hear the word “capitulation” a lot. President Obama used it a couple of times in his speech today, some of speeches given in Switzerland had it¸ the media uses it freely and many of the readers of this blog seem to have fun with it ! . Whether Iran did in fact capitulate or not is immaterial at this point. Iran and the world needed to free itself from this nuisance created by the west [including the US and the Europeans] some 40 years ago. As Zarif said today so subtly [“zarifly”], the Iranian people stand to benefit from what happened today. If this happens, and I believe it will, why should we look for negative terminologies like capitulation. We should rejoice that guys like Ahmadinejad and even the so-called Supreme Leader who thought they were at the top of the world when they were making fun of those crippling UN resolutions, are shut up forever ! As we know of nuclear weapons, in this day and age, no country needs it, and if getting free from this nuisance is called capitulation, let it be. Let it be one less crazy country in the world. If the Saudis, the Egyptians, the Turks, or others want to go to this crazy road, let them go. It will take them at least one generation and an enormous amount of their blood and treasure to get to the point that Iran got today ! G.A.
ReplyDeleteTo all of you who are claiming that Iran capitulated or was treated like a naughty school kid, you're simply jealous of the IRI.
ReplyDeleteIt's very clear that at the end of the day, the sheer number of centrifuges and 20% enrichment was for leverage. Iran's red lines remain untouched. In fact, it was the West who backed off from a classical red line that it drew back at 2003, namely, enrichment. We still have 6000+ centrifuges and will enrich Uranium up to 5%. We're also keeping (but redesigning) Arak and no nuclear facility will be closed or dismantled.
Now if you look at what Iran is getting in return (lifting of UN, U.S and EU sanctions, international cooperation in nuclear research and technology, and a number of other things), you will know that for an "Iran vs 5 nuclear powers + 1 nuclear-capable power" deal, the deal is quite good and it is probably the first agreement in 200 years which didn't actually see Iran capitulate!
Congratulation to all iranian
ReplyDeleteThe iran economny will now sky rocketing and in 10 Years iran will be China of Middleeast
Highly unlikely. Because for the next 25 years if Iran so sneezes it will go back to full sanctions.Plus with the type of system in power in todays Iran there can be no TRUST for any foreign investor or multinational company to invest into the country.
Deletenot really. the Iranian economy will remain a mess and Iran will remain far, far behind the Turkish economy.
Deleteit's going to take decades for the Iranian economy to become an important one, but the Iranian people are a great resource and provide much hope.
getting rid of the regime of reactionary old priests would also be a great help to the economy and to Iran's place in the world.
What a positive historic event for Iran and her people, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYes bro it will sky rocket to $700,000,000,000 for another Ahmadinejad whose ideas is closer to leadership to come and make it vanish.
ReplyDeleteFor those friends got upset about my comments above ( April 2, 2015 at 9:35 PM), please see below the fact sheet published by US state department on their website after Mr. Zarif and Ms. Mogherini joint statement:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2015/04/240170.htm
Now you tell me, shall we trust them and expect them to remove the sanctions and do all those sweet stuff indicated in your comments? Nuclear joint statement ink has not dried yet they are mentioning about missiles, human rights, etc.. Off course human rights and democracy is non of their concerns because if it was they would have done something about Saudi Arabia and Bahrain as an instance.
The unfortunate reality of this world is that a jungle law is applied here and in jungle you have to be strong. Our strength comes from out underground centrifuges in Fordo and our technology to send satellites to geo orbit. They want to take away this strength in the negotiation table and then finish us off on the ground like they did to Ghadaffi.
Please see the cartoon below. It represents exactly the situation that we are dealing with now.

Sorry but sometimes it is good to look at empty part of the glass to avoid illusions.
I think the announced agreement will turn out to be nothing but a big waste of time and a grand exercise in futility . And I hope I will be proved wrong .
ReplyDeleteSorry, much ado about nothing.
ReplyDeletemy sentiment , exactly !
DeleteTwelve years.Twelve years of huffing and puffing by the occupying regime in Tehran. And all for what? So that the dear leader can drink the poison chalice laced with enriched uranium while the majority of Iranian people have to suffer the regimes pointless adventures followed by their daily diatribes.
