Maj. Gen. Mostafa Izadi, deputy chief of staff of Iranian armed forces, denied recent media reports that Iran has supplied the Iraqi army with close-range Zelzal ballistic missiles, Fars News Agency reported today. Gen. Izadi did not say if the missiles were being used by the Iranian forces in Iraq. Zelzal-2s have an estimated range of 210 km (130 miles) carrying a 600 kg warhead.

Wonderful news! Now that the cowardly Iraqi army is being supplied with Zelzel ballistic missiles, sooner or later it will be easily handed over to the Islamic fanatics ISIS to be used against border towns inside of Iran.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible this denial is in reference to photos recently making the rounds on social media that were said to be ZelZal artillery rockets being transported in Anbar from Iran. The photos depicted huge transports carrying covered payloads, led by HMMWV and top cover provided by a helicopter.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out the photo was taken many years ago in Afghanistan of a U.S. convoy transporting covered industrial equipment.
Iran's denial was clearly about the delivery of Zelzal close-range ballistic missiles to Iraqi army and not about an old photo taken in Afghanistan.

DeleteThe claims of which were based on completely unsubstantiated media reports that were likely based on that infamous picture that Mark Pyruz mentions. The key word here is "unsubstantiated"
Not clear what you guys are talking about. Let's go back to the subject of the short post here: Iranian military has categorically denied supplying the Iraqi army with Zelzal close-range ballistic missiles. The Iranian military did not say if itself was using those missiles in Iraq. That's it. I don't understand what's the relevance of some od photos taken in Afghanistan and published in social media to the subject of this post.
