The U.S. Senate voted 58-42, short of 60 votes needed, on a measure to consider Iran nuclear deal, JCPOA; effectively blocking a vote of disapproval. The procedural vote was nonetheless a major victory for President Obama, sparing him from the need for a veto to safeguard the deal.
Very good news.
ReplyDeleteYes it is Mark. I am worried that US leaders have been sooooo used to conflict with Iran, they dont even know how to deescalate AND negotiate. GIving peace a chance is not about concepts and theories..its about doing it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a major victory for those factions in Iran who are no friends of the U.S.
ReplyDeleteEven if the Iranian nuclear program issue is resolved satisfactorily , we'll still be facing a regime that is fundamentally hostile to our allies and international norms .
I'm not advocating a conflict with Iran , but a lot has to change about this regime before we could even hint at normalizing relationships .I guess we kicked the can down the road , ten years down the road perhaps .Surely it'll be a very different world by then , but lets hope Iranians will be led by a more responsible and representative government ,better suited to resolve the other issues .
